On Thursday 09 May 2024, Xian Zhang will step in to conduct the Orchestra of St Luke’s in the final concert of their 2023/24 season at Carnegie Hall. The programme promises a glorious evening of Brahms choral works, featuring Begräbnisgesang and Ein deutsches Requiem with soprano Erin Morley, baritone Andrè Schuen, La Chapelle de Québec and Ensemble Altera. More information and tickets are available here.
The concert comes as Zhang concludes her successful house debut at The Metropolitan Opera, conducting Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Bachtrack wrote, “Making her company debut in the pit was conductor Xian Zhang, eliciting superb music-making from the orchestra and allowing Puccini’s magnificent score to work its magic throughout the evening.” Madama Butterfly runs until the 11 May 2024; more information and tickets are available here.
Zhang will also return to conduct the Orchestra of St Luke’s on the 14 July at Caramoor and closes the season of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (her 8th as Music Director) in the week of 03 June.
